Today, the self-appointed Champion for the Middle Class, the Scourge of Wall St., the man who would eliminate corporate and special interest money from the electoral process, who vowed to take his candidacy all the way to the Democratic Convention to prevent an ‘unqualified’ Hillary Clinton from securing the nomination of the party, pulled a complete 180 and endorsed her today. Yes, the man who started a so-called political revolution, today became Bernadict Sanders.
After months of hearing Sanders deride Clinton for her cozy relationship with Wall St. and corporate donors, he caved; it was total capitulation. One has to wonder what he was offered in exchange for his endorsement, or perhaps he cut a secret back-room deal with Clinton in which she promised to disavow all that campaign cash from the same institutions who ran the U.S. economy onto the rocks in the greatest economic disaster since the Great Depression. Yes, I’m sure that the latter must be the case.
It will be interesting to see what his supporters, they of the NeverHillary mantra, do come November. Will they stick to their guns and get behind Jill Stein, Gary Johnson, or (gulp) Donald Trump? Or will they follow him off the cliff, becoming an army of Berncoats? His support of Clinton forever casts a pall on his name and his brand. Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, eviscerated him today in the press and via Twitter, stating that “Many Berning hearts are breaking right now.”
Her disappointment in Sanders’ decision to climb into bed with a person whose fingerprints are all over NAFTA, the Iraq war, a crime bill that devoured a generation of young minorities, and Wall St. deregulation was palpable.”I wish Hillary believed what you believe, @BernieSanders. But it just doesn’t pass the laugh test,” Stein stated in another message.
Seems Bernie has thrown in with the Establishment to defeat the non-Establishment Trump, no matter it’s costing him his political soul. The only question is, will his supporters do the same?
